Information for the Handicapped

Bangkok is an exceptionally difficult place to get around in a wheel chair, with rough sidewalks, few ramps at curbs, and many places with no pedestrian stripped walkways, only pedestrial bridges with long stairways. Ramps down curbs and into buildings are more likely to be found in tourist areas as a result of more recent efforts to accomodate the handicapped. Public transport is rarely accomodating.

On the positive side, hiring a private car and driver is much less expensive than in western cities and can be more convenient. The density of taxis on the street is very high in Bangkok. Business establishments in Thailand also tend to have higher employee-to-customer ratios, due to the low cost of labor here. Further, Thais tend to be helpful people.
