Car, Life and Health InsuranceThis page is under construction... and I'm waiting for enough demand to be expressed in order to ensure it's worthwhile to write this up. After all, if you don't bother to inquire, then why should I bother to write it up? Health insurance: Foreign health insurance is honored in Thailand, though it depends upon the insurance company. If yours has a bad history of paying bills submitted from Thailand, then it may be refused. However, the good side is that health care is MUCH cheaper in Thailand than in the U.S. Compared to other countries, the relative merits vary, of course. You can got a health insurance if you apply at AIA (Thailand) PCL (http://www.aia.co.th). Standard, domestic health insurance usually covers only expenses in Thailand, and you need a much more expensive policy for coverage overseas, understandably. Car insurance: Car insurance is MANDATORY. You must have an up to date sticker on your windshield or else there is a big fine. There are many private vendors of car insurance. A few of the private sector vendors have a deal with the government so that you can get your compulsory car insurance via mail. More information is on the web site of the Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT), which oversees the Post and Telegraph Department (PTD), at www.cat.or.th . (I had previously bookmarked the page, but they move it around, leaving a dead link.) Property insurance is available. I can write more if there is demand. Life insurance? See also Cryonics
