Golf OutingsThailandGuru.com > Clubs and meetings > Golf outingsThis web page is in response to a common inquiry, and more or less cut & paste from my reply to one gentleman. Thailand is known to have some diverse and beautiful golf courses in Thailand, many with a Thai style and created by govt. departments. Get a book when you arrive. A highly recommended one is by a guy with the last name of Ffrench-smith or something like that. I don't play golf yet, though I've been to driving ranges, which seem to be all over Thailand. The only golf "clubs", as in people, I know are the JW League and the monthly golf social of the Lighthouse Club. The latter has been going regularly since I've known them, which is since 1995. Though the Lighthouse Club is people associated with construction, engineering and project management, they're pretty laid back and open to guests. The 1997 crash obliterated most of their membership of expat junior engineers, but the expat Managing Directors stayed and the golf outings continued to have a good turnout. Thus: www.LighthouseBKK.com has info on the monthly golf social. I also created a quick & dirty website for a shop selling used golf equipment, in my former housing village in Bangkapi. www.sammakorn.com/golfsmith These kinds of places are located all over, both selling and renting. Also, please let me know any other clubs or groups you find out so that I can add it to the website. When you fly into Bangkok, have you ever noticed the golf course that goes RIGHT BETWEEN TWO RUNWAYS? First time I saw it, I couldn't believe it!! My plane had just touched down and we were whizzing past active golfers!! Besides the risk of a stray golf ball to airplanes (albeit unlikely), the noise must be deafening, though it is on the north end so that it's usually planes landing against the monsoon winds rather than taking off. Anyway, good question, as I should cover this on ThailandGuru.
