Maybe don't put your underwear and socks into laundry going out to laundry services. It is traditional that nobody handles your dirty underwear or socks except your wife/husband or girlfriend/boyfriend or some of your extended family or yourself. Hotels are an exception, and it's not a big deal in serviced apartments where there are a lot of foreigners because Thais are experienced with foreigners missing this Thai sentiment, but if you're a small minority where you live, then it may be different. They may clean them anyway, but if it's not too inconvenient, then it's better to give them just the big and laborious cleaning and ironing, and just soak, soap, rinse, and hang those little things yourself. It's quick and easy.
Speaking of hanging, don't hang out your underwear and socks above peoples heads. Hang them low. When I first came to Thailand, I pinned up my underwear and socks at the same level as everything else. At that place, this was near the stairway, and a Thai person left me a note written in Thai, which I promptly got a translation and explanation about.
